About us

We are a non-profit organization for British and Commonwealth women and their families living in and around The Woodlands, Texas.

Whether you've just moved to Texas or have been here for a while, we hope The Woodlands British Ladies Club (WBLC) offers exactly what you need to help you meet new people, make friends, pursue your hobbies or interests and support local charities.

Our History

The Woodlands British Ladies Club (WBLC) was originally formed in 1993 by Tricia Stapleton, when she identified that there was a need to provide support and friendship to local British and Commonwealth women and their families.

Our members range across all ages and stages of life: women who have moved here for their partner's job, mums with babies or young children, parents of teenagers, working women and women who have retired. Even though we say goodbye to some members every year when they move on to new horizons or go back to their home country, we continue to thrive as new members join. Our membership currently stands at just over 140 active members.

To be eligible to become a member you need to:

- be British or a citizen of a British Commonwealth country; or

The Woodlands British Ladies Club has an annual membership fee of $35, payable to the WBLC in January every year (with a pro-rated fee for those joining mid-year). Activities

There are many different activities arranged by members of the club and you are welcome to take part in as many or as few as you like. We produce a monthly newsletter and calendar of activities and events, which is emailed to all members and published on our members' Facebook Page.

Some events are open to partners, such as pub nights, quiz nights and family-orientated parties. This is a great way for our families to meet people too.

As well as helping to support each other, we also provide support and donations to several local charities in The Woodlands and surrounding areas.

Book clubs

If you enjoy reading, we have a daytime or an evening group where books are chosen by group members. It's an excellent chance to be introduced to new titles and authors and to share your favourite books with others in an informal setting.

Craft group

As our newest addition, this group is just getting going. If you love to knit or crochet, have a passion for another craft, or you want to learn a new craft, there's no need to do it alone.

Coffee mornings

Coffee mornings are on the last Thursday of the month starting at 10am. Hosted in a member's home or another local venue, these provide a chance to chat with and get to know other members in a relaxed and informal environment. Our Membership Coordinator usually arranges to go along with new members to introduce them, so there's no need to feel shy!

Jellies

Jellies is a fun, friendly and informal group for mums with children from infants to five years old. We organise regular play dates at local parks and play centres, or coffee mornings at members' homes that everyone is welcome to attend. We also celebrate special occasions throughout the year with parties at Easter, Halloween and Christmas. It's a great opportunity to meet and talk to other mums (or mums-to-be!) who are in the same situation.

Pickleball

The fastest growing sport in the world can be played all over The Woodlands. We play most Wednesday evenings 6pm-7pm and Thursday mornings 8.30-9.30am. Whether it’s your first time trying it or you’re a more experienced player, everyone is welcome!

Run club

Join us on Monday mornings starting at 8.30am for a run or a walk. Various paces are all welcome, and furry friends are welcome too! Some members get involved with local parkruns at the weekends.

Social events

Our social events and nights out can be anything from a restaurant meet-up to line dancing or golf! These events vary from month to month and new ideas are always welcome! We also hold popular annual events such as the Christmas Lunch.

Theater group

The theater group is an informal group who share information about local productions in The Woodlands, Houston and the surrounding areas. It is a great way to find someone who might like to accompany you to a show, or even get a group together for a night out.

Walking group

Are you keen to get on your walking shoes and discover the great footpaths and forest trails in The Woodlands? We meet every Tuesday morning and Friday morning, starting from a different location each week to walk for about an hour, before stopping for a drink and a chat at a local coffee shop.
